Privacy, and what happens to student data.

Étude is used by students, most of them minors. This page says plainly what it reads, what it never does, and how to get your data out or gone. If a sentence here is vague, it is a bug — write to us.

Who we are

Étude is an independent product built on Claude. It runs inside your own Claude account. We are not Anthropic, not affiliated with your school, and not endorsed by either.

What Étude reads

  • Your conversations with Étude, and the study profile it builds from them — classes, teachers, term dates, commitments, and grades you choose to share.
  • Documents you send it: a syllabus, an assignment sheet, a photo of a handout.
  • With the connectors you turn on, read-only: Google Calendar events, Google Drive files you name, Google Classroom courses and assignments.
  • Your plan and billing status, from Stripe. We never see your card number.

Étude writes outward exactly once: a study session on your calendar, when you ask for it. Never during setup, never as a side effect of planning.

What Étude never does

  • Sell student data, or share it with data brokers or advertisers. There is no version of Étude where this changes.
  • Use your schoolwork to train a model.
  • Show a parent, teacher, or tutor your conversations, your documents, or your lesson content.
  • Serve ads, or profile you for anyone else's marketing.

Parent access is granted by the student

A student turns parent access on, and can turn it off. A parent sees outcomes only: grades, time studied, progress, and what is coming up. Not conversations. Not materials. Not what a lesson said.

Revoking access takes effect immediately, and the student is never asked to explain why.

Age

Étude is for students 13 and over. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian completes any purchase. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe we have, write to support@etudeapp.ai and we will delete it. [counsel: COPPA / state student-privacy wording to confirm before publish]

How long data is kept

  • On Free, a semester's data is permanently deleted thirty days after that semester ends. No undo, no restore. This clock is separate from the 30-day access window that starts at signup.
  • On Pro, semesters are kept until you delete them.
  • You can export everything, any time, on any plan.
  • Close your account and everything is deleted within thirty days, backups included.

Who else touches it

Anthropic, because Claude runs the conversation and Étude lives inside your Claude account. Supabase, which runs the database holding everything Étude records about your studying, and the sign-in system that knows your email address. Vercel, which hosts this website, the sign-in and account pages, and the Étude server Claude connects to. Stripe, for payments. Resend, which delivers Étude's emails to you.

Google appears more than once here, for unrelated reasons, so we name them apart. This website and the account pages serve their own type, so reading them sends nothing to Google. The emails Étude sends do link a Google font, so a mail app that loads remote styling may fetch one file from Google when you open a message. Google's mail relay carries the sign-in link. And Google is one of the two ways to sign in; the other is Apple.

The Google connectors are the exception, and the difference matters: Calendar, Drive and Classroom live in your Claude account, not in Étude. Étude holds no Google login of its own — Claude reads those for you and passes in what it needs.

There is no analytics service and no error-reporting service in Étude. That is who Étude uses today — not a claim about who those companies use in turn, which we cannot see and will not pretend to. [engineering: confirm final subprocessor list — hosting, error reporting, email — before publish]

What you can ask for

Export your data, correct it, delete it, disconnect a connector, revoke parent access, or close the account. Write to support@etudeapp.ai and we answer within five business days. A parent or guardian can make the same request on behalf of a student under 18.
